A wetland refers to an area in which water covers soil. Wetlands contribute to environmental homeostasis in the sense(s) that they influence biodiversity, regulate climate, and improve water quality. Wetlands influence biodiversity by serving as an area for breeding and increasing the amount of aquatic life. They help with climate because they store vast amounts of carbon dioxide and regulate temperature. Wetlands help improve water quality by trapping sediments and toxic materials from blending in with water. Through these ways and more, wetlands can be a massive benefit to the environment.
