Explanation:

x^2 + x^2 = 1
2x^2 = 1
x^2 = 1 / 2
x = +- 1 / root(2)

but x = -1 / root(2) will be rejected because side can't be negative .

x = 1 / root(2)
therefore ,
x = root(2) / 2
