Fitzgerald has set the scene by grasping the readers attention to Gatsby. Fitzgerald shows us nicks interest in Gatsby and keeps the readers attention by portraying him as a mystery. The meeting with Nick and Gatsby was interesting because Nick didn’t know it was Gatsby at first and started gossiping about Gatsby to Gatsby himself. Gatsby then introduces himself by apologizing for not being a good host, Nick is then lost for words. Gatsby tells him if there’s anything he wants to just ask him for it and disappears to answer a phone call. So you can say the introduction between the two is very awkward and even unexpected.
