In biology, cell theory is a scientific theory first formulated in the mid-nineteenth century. It has three tenets:

1. Living organisms are made up of cells.
2. Cells are the basic structural/organizational unit of all organisms.
3. All cells come from pre-existing cells.
Which of these statements is NOT supported by the cell theory?

C.) Macromolecules are the basic building blocks of organisms is NOT supported by the cell theory.
Cell theory states that living organisms are made up of cells, cells are the basic structural and organizational unit of all organisms, and all cells come from pre-existing cells. The theory does not address the basic building blocks of organisms. Macromolecules (such as proteins, carbohydrates, and nucleic acids) are the basic building blocks of cells, but not of organisms as a whole.
