subtract one equation from the other to eliminate 6x:

6x-5y=60
- 6x+3y=12
——————
0-8y=48

Simplify -8y=48:
y=-6

Substitute y into one of the equations and simplify:
6x+3(-6)=12
6x-18=12
6x=30
x=5

So, x=5 and y=-6
