Answer: Presidents Kennedy and Johnson sought to put the containment theory into practice by getting involved in Vietnam. Both presidents were very worried that, if Vietnam fell to Communism, so too would all of Southeast Asia. They also were there to support the sovereign rule of South Vietnam, though this was a smaller priority. US involvement in Vietnam is widely considered one of the US’ biggest military failures, as the Communist North eventually took control of the anti-Communist South.
