It is D. New France had a smaller population.

“The French colonies in North America were known as New France.”

It cannot be A.
Slaves weren’t allowed to practice their original religions or gather (fear of revolt which became true with the Haitian Revolution — started from Bois Caïman or Demerara Revolt — started when many gathered in Reverend John Smith’s Church) in large groups. Christianity was the major religion and was taught to the enslaved population.
