C. Chromosomes form from chromatin.

During prophase, the chromatin in the nucleus condenses and coils, forming visible chromosomes. The spindle fibers also begin to form and extend from the centrioles, which move toward opposite poles of the cell. The nuclear envelope also breaks down during prophase. Sister chromatids separate during anaphase.
