Fracking can contaminate water supplies if it is not done properly

water supplies can be contaminated by fracking, and fracking fluid injected into rock to enable gas to be released often contains chemicals. Air pollution and water contamination due to the toxic chemicals used in hydraulic fracturing are the greatest concerns within fracking sites.

I would go with D, "smelting releases toxic metals into the water supply."
