A spring balance measures the weight of an object.

If the balance is calibrated in lbs then the weight of the object is the weight as measured by the balance

If the balance is calibrated in kilograms then the weight of the object is the mass (as measured by the balance) times the gravitational acceleration F = m g where F is measured in Newton's

Mass is a constant as measured on earth or on the moon. but the weight on the moon is about 1/6 of the weight on earth

Force = Mass * Acceleration = M ^ a
