Conservatives in Congress.
During Franklin D. Roosevelt's presidency, some conservatives in Congress opposed his proposal to increase government spending and regulate business practices. They thought his policies were too expensive and would lead to increased government control over the economy, which they saw as a threat to individual liberty and free business. These conservatives claimed that the market should be allowed to self-regulate and that government intervention would only make matters worse. They also criticized Roosevelt's New Deal policies, such as Social Security and the National Labor Relations Act, as communist and anti-business.
