The width of a rectangle is 32 inches. The width of the rectangle decreased by 8 inches and its length also changed. The area of the rectangle remains the same, 1,440 square inches. What is the new length of the rectangle?

60 in

Explanation:

Area = length x width

Area is constant at 1440 in^2

For first rectangle: W1 and L1

For second rectangle: W2 and L2

W1 = 32 in

W2 = W1 - 8 in = 24 in

1440 in^2 = L1 x 32 in = L2 x 24 in

L1 = 45 in

L2 = 60 in
