Unlike light, however, x-rays have higher energy and can pass through most objects, including the body.

The beams pass through your body and create an image on an X-ray detector nearby. As the beams go through your body, bones, soft tissues and other structures absorb radiation in different ways. Solid or dense objects (such as bones) absorb radiation easily, so they appear bright white on the image.
