The graph of the line - 2 · x + 5 · y = 10 is shown in the image attached below.

How to graph a line on Cartesian plane

Herein we must graph a line in implicit form, that is, line is of the form:

a · x + b · y = c

Where:

  • a, b, c - Real constants.
  • x, y - Variables.

According to geometry, any line can be constructed by knowing two distinct points on Cartesian plane. The procedure is now summarized:

  1. Equalize x to 0 and clear y.
  2. Equalize y to and clear x.
  3. Mark the points on Cartesian plane.
  4. Draw the line that passes through the two points.

Step 1:

- 2 · 0 + 5 · y = 10

y = 2

P₁(x, y) = (0, 2)

Step 2:

- 2 · x + 5 · 0 = 10

x = - 5

P₂(x, y) = (- 5, 0)
