K is the midpoint of JL. If JK = 9x and JL = 14x + 10, what is JK?

JK = 22.5

Explanation:

since K is the midpoint of JL , then

JK = KL = 9x , and

JK + KL = JL ( substitute values )

9x + 9x = 14x + 10

18x = 14x + 10 ( subtract 14x from both sides )

4x = 10 ( divide both sides by 4 )

x = 2.5

Then

JK = 9x = 9 × 2.5 = 22.5
