so we can 7-(-3) / 5-1 → 10/4 or 5/2

a slope of 5/2 means that to get from one point on the line to another you must rise by five units and run to the right by two units

you can also do the following and get the same result:

-3-7 / 1-5 → -10/-4

10/4 is the same as -10/-4 because a negative divided by a negative gives you a positive
