Islam began as a branch off of Christianity, with Muhammad being considered as the last prophet of Allah. Islam spread from Mecca throughout the Middle East, into Central Asia, Northern Africa, and into Spain before Charles Martel of the Francs stopped its spread into Europe during the Middle Ages.
