Spartan king whose stand against the invading Persian army at the pass of Thermopylae in central Greece. He is known for his heroic death during the Persian War at Thermopylae, where he and his soldiers were all killed defending their land. At Thermopylae, Leonidas and his men defended Greece from the Persians, but all were killed in the battle.
