Since the two rectangles are similar,so the ratio of one rectangle of one longer (length) to shorter(breadth) is equal to another rectangle of one longer (length) to shorter(breadth).Mathematically,

  • Length1/Breath1 = Length2/Width2, where subscript 1 refers to one rectangle and superscript 2 refers to another rectangle.

In one rectangle of the similar triangles,

  • Length 1 = 10 ft
  • Width 1 = 6 ft

In another rectangle,

  • Length 2 = 25 ft
  • Width 2 = x ft.

We have to workout for x.

On applying the formula, we get:

  • Length1/Width 1 = Length2/Width 2

Putting in the values:

  • 10/6 = 25/x

On solving,

  • 5/3 = 25/x
  • x = 3*5 = 15 (Cross multiply and just cancel out 5 and 25)

Hence,the missing width is 15 ft
