Satis House, the decaying mansion where Miss Havisham lives in Charles Dickens' novel "Great Expectations," and the marshes in which Pip grows up, both share the qualities of being vast, damp, and dark. While Satis House is oppressive in the sense that it is a haunting reminder of Miss Havisham's past, the marshes are not necessarily oppressive in the same way, so it is not correct to select "oppressive" as a similarity between the two
