How do prevailing winds affect the precipitation an area experiences

Prevailing Winds - Winds carry moisture and rain from the oceans to land. Onshore winds that blow from sea to land will bring more precipitation particularly to the coasts, while areas with offshore winds that blow from land to sea will be dryer.
