In a certain country, approximately 22 out of 100 people over the age of 12 smoke. How many smokers would you expect in a group of 850 people over the age of 12?

Answer:

People smoking= 187

Explanation:
Take ratio of 22 people smoking out of 100,

(22)/(100)
now take ratio of unknown people smoking to 850 that is,

(x)/(850)
Compare them[i.e. take into proportion]

(22)/(100) = (x)/(850)

(22)/(100) . 850 = x

x= 187
