First, you look at the parenthesis. (2/3)

There is nothing to do with it so you take it out of the parenthesis

8/9 - 2/3 * 2

Now multiply: 2/3 * 2 = 4/3

Now you need to subtract. But the number don't have a common denominator.

Find a common denominator between 9 and 3.

3 can go into 9 three times, so times 3 by 3 to get 9

Now you can subtract 8/9 - 12/9 = -4/9
