Sweet Home Alabama (Song)

Why do you think Lynyrd Skynyrd wrote this song? Is it effective in paying homage to Alabama? Why or why not?

Answer

The song is a reply to Neil Young’s song Southern Man. His name is said in the song in a direct reply. Lynyrd Skynyrd thought Neil Young was grouping all southern men in one racist group. Segregation was a big thing at that time. So it’s really not homage to Alabama, the group was actually from Florida. That’s what I know from what my parents told me, they are old and know this music.
