Let the lengths of the pieces, in inches, be
x, x+6, x+8.

The lengths of these pieces add to
56 inches.

x+x+6+x+8=56 \\ \\ 3x+14=56 \\ \\ 3x=42 \\ \\ x=14

So, the lengths of the pieces are 14 in, 20 in, and 22 in.
