The length of Ruben’s rectangular backyard is 10 meters more than the width. If the perimeter of the backyard is 220 meters, what is the length of the rectangular backyard?

Solution

let us assume width = x

length = 10 + width

10 + x

perimeter of rectangular backyard = 2( length + width)

= 220 = 2 ( 10 + x + x )

= 220 = 2 ( 10 + 2x )

= 220 / 2 = 10 + 2x

= 110 - 10 = 2x

= 100/2 = x = 50

so, according to above solution and Q.

width = x = 50

length = 10 + width = 10 + x = 10 + 50 = 60

So the answer is 60
