Consider the 5 of Europe up until World War I. Then consider this quotation from Wilson’s speech: “The day of conquest and aggrandizement is gone by.” What is Wilson referring to, and what is the significance of this statement?

President Woodrow Wilson in this sentence was referring to the idea that a new world order was needed after World War I--one in which there was less of an incentive for countries to go to war in order to achieve their goals. This is why he advocated for the creation of the League of Nations.
