M phase or mitotic phase is the last phase of the cell cycle of eukaryotic cells in which actual cell division takes place.

It results into the formation of two daughter cells from a single parent cell, each having same type and number of chromosomes as that of the parent cell.

The M phase can be divided into four stages namely prophase, metaphase, anaphase, and telophase.

Cytokinesis takes place after telophase which divides the cytoplasm of the cell equally into the two daughter cells.
