Climax is the "turning point" in a story. The exposition is when the conflict is set up and then the climax is the conflict itself that often changes the pace of the story. Once the conflict is resolved there is then falling action.

The children would be told that they are going to the beach in the exposition. This bit of knowledge would work to set up the story and introduce a conflict.
