The northeast, the Pacific and west weren't very well settled when the moment started if at all and the south was vehemently trying to keep their slave hence hem going to war and failing but trying to create their own nation

(B) Northeast. The abolitionist movement began in the United States in the northern states when the anti-slavery society of New England was formed (1831). Although it had previous roots, in the eighteenth century when the treaties were initiated to abolish slavery, but was only possible after the war of secession.
