Why did sculptures of Ashurnasirpal II hunting lions place the lion below the king?

The reason for this is that with lions beneath and below the king Ashurnasirpal II, this was a symbolic gesture about how the king defeated the lions and how they were subjugated, thus they were placed lower than the king.

Such a theme is common in sculptures as the height of someone can depict his or her power in society or a certain area.
