First of all, the problem is poorly written. It wants you to find "the answer to
the problem", but it doesn't tell you what the question is. Maybe the question
is: "How much did Matt spend altogether on cola?", but it never says that.

Furthermore, the answer to that question doesn't appear in the list of choices.

Matt spends ($1.69) plus ($.45 three times).

Total cost = 1.69 + 3(0.45) .

Choice 'b' could have worked, if there were parentheses around the ' .45 ',
or a 'times' symbol between the ' 3 ' and the ' .45 '. But there's not.
