Oral tradition is more like a tale or legend: it's less reliable, it's repeated by people, so it's usually not presented by the person who originated it: instead, it's repeated from peron to person with the possibility that each person can change it a bit.

A source is more reliable and typically comes directly from the person who witness the event in question.
