The conflict between the Sioux and the US military at Wounded Knee marked the end of the armed resistance by the Sioux Native Americans. The Sioux that were not massacred were forced into the reservations at gunpoint. This battle is now known as a massacre of innocents. Many women and children were murdered. This massacre was the last battle between the US army and the Native Americans. It happened nearly 400 years after Christopher Columbus arrived in the Americas and contacted the Native Americans.
