The term ectopic pregnancy denotes pregnancy in which the fertilized egg attaches itself in a place other than inside the uterus. The most common place are the fallopian tube. Because the fertilized egg can develop properly only in the uterus, this pregnancy must be treated. An untreated ectopic pregnancy can be a medical emergency.
