Ann Carlyle is planning a business trip for which she needs to rent a car.The car rental company charges $36 per day plus $0.50 per mile over 100miles.Suppose Ms.Carlyle rents the car for 5 days and drives 180. Write an expression for how much it will cost ms.carlyle to rent the car.

36(5) + 0.5(1.8)

Explanation:

Since the car rental company charges $36 per day, and she drove for 5 days, we have to start the expression with 36(5). To get how much it costs for 180 miles, we have to continue the expression with 0.50(1.8), so it can count 100 miles for 0.50 and the rest of the 80 in 0.8. :)

Ann rents the car for five days, so this cost is $36*5=$180.  In addition, she drives 180-100=80 miles over 100 miles.  This adds 80*$0.50=$40 to the cost.  Thus, the final cost is $180+$40=$220.
