How did Putin deal with Chechnya?

Chechnya (officially Chechen Republic) is a republic of Russia. The Chechen Republic is an integral part of Russia. It's just like the US is made up of individual states. Therefore, no one invaded anywhere - after all, no one says that the US president invaded some state.

Putin dealt with Chechnya in the same way he dealt with many foreign policy issues: with an iron fist. He invaded the country mostly because he wanted the oil.
