In its American colonies, Spain helped the Catholic Church meet its goal of c.converting people. At the time of the colonization of Latin America, Spain was an extremely religious country and one of its main goals was to convert the native peoples inhabiting the regions of the Caribbean, Central America and South America. Now, a huge majority (with numbers around eighty percent) of all countries which have been colonized by the Spanish report their religion as being Catholic or a Christian denomination.
