The legal system was the part of French society that was affected by the adoption of the Napoleonic Code. The Napoleonic Code is cited as a heavy influence on the world, because of it being a modern legal code and it influencing many countries outside of Europe, although it was not the first modern legal code to ever be made. The Napoleonic Code forbade privileges according to birth, allowed freedom of religion, and was very specific about government jobs being given to those who were qualified for them.
