a square chess board has sides measuring 16 inches. what is the area of the chess board? what is the area of each small square in the chess board?

Well, first the formula is this:

A=bh
b=base
h=height

Translation: Area is base times height
So: 16×16=256
The area of the board is 256 inches
^(2).

The small squares should each be only one inch on each side:
So:1×1=1
The area of each tiny square on the board is 1 inch
^(2).
