You have a coupon worth $18 off the purchase of a scientific calculator. At the same time

the calculator is offered with a discount of 15%, but no further discounts may be applied. For
what tag price on the calculator do you pay the same amount for each discount?

You want to know 15% of what equals 18.

15% * x = 18

0.15x = 18

x = 120

So when the price is $120, the price will be the same for both discounts.

120 - 18 = 102

15% of 120 = 18

120 - 18 = 102
