s^2+2x-35
analyze the polynomial
-35 tells me the signs are different therefore must subtract
+2 tells me the larger number is +

Two numbers multiplied together give me -35 subtracted = +2

+7 and -5
(s+7) (s-5)

x^2 + 2x - 35

(a x b) = -35
(a + b) = 2

(7 x -5) = -35
(7 + -5) = 2

Plug them in:

x^2 - 5x + 7x -35
x(x - 5) + 7(x - 5)

Therefore, you can conclude that our final answer is...

(x + 7)(x - 5)
