A caterpillar represents the larval stage of the life cycle in the insect. The caterpillar is a butterfly larva. Insects have four life stage mainly egg, larva, pupa, and adult. The larva goes through a pupal stage before it can develop into an adult. Caterpillar spends must of its time in the larval stage, in this stage the eat, grow and shed their exoskeleton.
