Athens depended on trading.
If they did not trade, their economy would fall apart.
Athens traded things like ships, coins, art (pottery), food and metals like iron and silver.

Unable them to provide enough food for their citizens, led in depending on trade. Athens became one of the traders in the Mediterranean region. Athens traded olive oil, silver,honey, and pottery.
