Constitutionally guaranteed protections against the abuse of government power are called civil liberties. These are protected by parts of the Constitution such as the Bill of Rights and also the precedent established by courts since the writing of the Constitution.

Civil liberties refers to the personal freedoms that bestowed upon all citizens which can never be override by the government , either by using law or judicial method of interpretation. These civil liberties was protected under the 14th amendment in 1868.
