The ethnic cleansing of Native Americans under the Jackson administration was driven by the desire to gain access to former Native American lands and to prevent the Native Americans from establishing a separate political order than the United States on the Atlantic Coast. The goals were to weaken and forcibly remove Native Americans to make room for new white settlement into these regions.
