what element's outer shell is not full, is commonly found in air, and can give, take, or share as many as 4 electrons with other elements?

Carbon normally bonds with 4 electrons but I don't think it is commonly found in the air...Nitrogen is in the air commonly but only shares 3 electrons and oxygen is in the air commonly but only shares 2
