x^(4)-x^(2)y^(2)-2y^(4)

=x^(4)-2x^(2)y^(2)+x^(2)y^(2)-2y^(4)

=x^(2)(x^(2)-2y^(2))+y^(2)(x^(2)-2y^(2))

=(x^(2)-2y^(2))(x^(2)+y^(2))
