What role do ATP and NADH play in living cells?

ATP provides energy to non-spontaneous reactions in cells.

NADH produces proton gradient in electron transport chain, and the proton gradient can be used by cell to produce ATP.


ATP is how the cell gets its energy. NADH is involved in that process (cellular respiration).

ATP is cellular currency, its a molecule that carrier potential energy within its bonds and when a phosphate group from it is deposited on a protein, the protein changes conformation and becomes active. NADH is an electron carrier, used in cellular respiration, amongst other places.
