The answer is 22. Work backwards and solve. Take 3 multiply by 9, subtract 5.

So,

If you translate it into mathematical form, you get

(5 + x)/(9) = 3

First, you would multiply both sides by 9.

5 + x = 27

Subtract 5 from both sides
x = 22
